At 8 weeks old they really aren’t playing with anything yet. Try to get toys with lights or something that will get their attention but as far as actually playing goes, they aren’t really ready for that yet.

Don’t become fooled that there are “specific toys” that will entertain children. They are made specifically for different ages and stages of development, but at eight weeks old a child’s fine motor skills are hardly developed enough to play with a toy. I think that you reading to your baby is awesome. Lots of parents believe this doesn’t have an effect on the future reading of their child, but it plays a very important role, & it sounds like you’re doing a gerat job. I’m sure that your baby is perfectly content having you near…& believe me, he’ll let you know when he doesn’t like his routine anymore. Best wishes!

He’s 8 weeks old. He doesn’t care about or need fancy, expensive toys. Don’t be a foolish consumer and waste your money on toys that claim to be “educational” for an infant.

Tummy time and interaction with you is all he really needs right now.
