well, i say that any little piece of wood will do because they like to chew on lots of things.

Buy those little wood houses, they will chew on them, and sleep inside them.. Mine liked cardboard boxes.. they would spend hours shredding the cardboard. Id cut a juicebox container in half, cut out a little door .. Mine never seemed to do anything with those wood chew sticks for rodents..

Probably the best place to find fun toys for your rat is this website:
It has all the information you need on fun and enriching games for your ratties, without burning holes in your pockets!
Ratties are very intelligent, so they need toys to keep their minds active. Cardboard tubes stuffed with their favorite treats with the edges folded down tight are good ideas, as are PVC pipes, and many bird toys. Cardboard tubes and toys for hamsters and gerbils are usually to small for ratties. Some ratties enjoy wheels as well, but watch out for wheels with spokes or open floors, as tails, feet, or heads may become injured in the holes. I recommend a “Wodent Wheel” or wheel with wire mesh. Chew toys are also good, such as wood blocks and some hard treats such as nuts.
Good luck, and email me if you have more questions!

plastic is out of the question
the best thing for rodent is stuff that challenge them so the best thing would be a maze it also increses there intelegence my rat actuly lives in a maze i put his food in diffrent parts of the maze each day to make sure it dosnt get boring for him and i put bedding throuout the maze so its comfortable trhe wallz are high enough for him not to crawl over then and i could still reach him
they also like chewing on things so woodend chew toys are good

The package to any toy you just spent money on is their favorite toy. Seriously, I’ve spent too much money on ‘rodent’ toys only to find out that they wanted my napkin from dinner.
Give them empty boxes, paper towel and toilet paper tubes, and for more tips
go there, which is where I got most of my ideas. Just today I put treats inside some of my boyfriends old socks that were going to get thrown out (clean of course) tied them up and threw them in. they shredded the socks, got the treats and are now making a ratty nest with the socks.
they do like cat toys though, atleast my girls do. jingly things seem to be the best, followed by crinkly shiny toys.

My rat Casper loves bird toys they hang up around the cage. But mostly he loves to be out of his cage exploring my room!!! x
