How old are babies when they start to play with toys?

My daughter is almost 11 weeks old, and could not care less about her rattles and toys yet. I’m wondering how old babies are when they start to enjoy shaking rattles and holding toys and stuff like that.

It can vary from each child, but the average age is usually 3-6 months.

My little man will be 12 weeks tomorrow and although when under his play mat hits the hanging toys he doesnt mean to

And really if they werent there he wouldnt really care he swings his little arms no matter what is there

He does however find a lot of interest in one particular thing

    THE TV
He looks for it all the time when it is on and he cranes to watch it whether he is on my knee playing under his mat sitting with people
He will find it and watches with a smie on his face lol

I cant wait til he likes toys too

for the first 1.5-2 months my baby only wanted to look at my face and hear me sing etc. Then for another 2 months, he’d watch me play with his toys. Then by 3.5-4 months, he’d at least try and hold on to his own toys although I had to place them in his hand. Then he started reaching for the toys around 5-5.5 months. He’s 6 months now and can entertain himself in his exersaucer or jumperoo with the little toys by spinning them to make noise etc. He still won’t shake a rattle though, but he’ll look at it and put it in his mouth.

Around 3-4 months my son started to become interested in fabric…washcloths, socks, gloves, towels etc. He then became interested in stuffed animals and the like. Now at 12 months old I can’t get him to stop touching everything. It will come in time.

This varies, as every young baby is different based on the environment where there are growing up to. But when you choose toys for young babies, you always need to pay attention on the safety of the toys to ensure it’s ok to play with.
