I am adopting a new puppy, and am curious about what type of toys I should get her. In case it matters, she is a mini dachshund. What types of toys should I get her? How many should I get?

fat cat makes awesome dog toys… also they love kongs. just make sure that you stick with toys like these because they will chew a lot and aside from not wanting toys torn up all over your house.. you don’t want your puppy ingesting what they shouldn’t. have fun. puppies are the best!

well dachshunds like their toys i have two mixes and they really really love their squeaky toys a mini kong is good too you can get kong fillers and it keeps them busy. get as many as you want it doesn’t really matter how many dog toys you get dogs like variety they do get bored

Start with some pretty chew proof ones, if shes an aggresive chewer often times she could potentially chew a soft toy into tiny bits and swallow them! I would start with nyabones and kongs stuffed with puppy stuffing, if she chews them but doesn’t maul them you can add stuffed squeaky ones with supervision. Always supervise a young puppy chewing they tend to really rip into their toys and swallow whatever comes out of them!

I recommend you get not that many toys, because it might overwhelm her. I would also recommend anything with a rope attached to it, why this is, is because anything that they can tug on is good for their teeth, especially puppies. My dog LOVES “kongs” they are available at pet smart, you can fill them with basic things such as treats, other small things and food. I would just get her a little blanket because they like the comfort.
good luck, and i hope you have fun with you’re pup!!

I have a pug and he LOVES squeaky toys and get him a kong and fill it with his favorite treats, it will keep him busy for a while and dogs like tug toys too. Buy about 5-6 toys and keep 3 hidden until he is bored with the ones he has now and also tennis balls are great too. Mine takes one out every time he goes potty…lol I think he thinks someone will take it away….lol Usually holidays I will buy his something. I bought his a Valentine toy today for him…:o)

The best thing i think you should get or just what everybody should get from there dogs are the Big bones dogs like chewing things and that bone will last a long time also if you get that that is showing the dog what he/she can chew on not your shoes or things like that that is a big promble with dog they like to chew on everything they can get to. little rag dolls is also a good thing to play with the dog.you can buy the dog as much toys as you wanna cause the dog will understand what is his/her and not yours.

You should get enough toys for your dog to have one or two every day, and rotate them so she doesn’t have the same toys more than twice a week. This will prevent her getting bored with the toys and turning to furniture and other items in the home to relieve her chewing instincts. So say, maybe 7 toys or so. Dachshunds aren’t usually really adamant chewers but like any puppy they still go through a teething faze and they do need something to keep them entertained.

*All puppies chew, so, get her something she can chew on without destroying such as a rawhide chew, a bone, Greenies, DentaBones, or puppy teething bone. They’re only a few dollars so it isn’t a bad idea to get a few of them in assorted brands and colors/scents. Some of them are even flavored… my dog loves the bacon one.
*Rope toys are good too, for chewers and for puppies who like tug-of-war games. I get the one that’s white and green because the green part is mint flavored and it freshens puppy breath.
*Squeaky toys are good too, just be sure that your puppy won’t dismantle it and eat the pieces. Some puppies are good with the cheap $0.98 squeakers from Wal-Mart and others have to have something a little tougher. Either way, when they figure out how to get it make noise it’s entertaining for everyone.
*One of my dogs had her own stuffed animal. Some puppies will tear them apart but for others it’s a comforting feeling, especially when it’s bed time. Just be sure it doesn’t have eyes or a nose that can be chewed off and eaten.
*Kong toys are great too. A little on the expensive side but they’re tough and they last forever it seems. Most of them have special shaped treats that go in the end too and they keep my puppy entertained for a few hours at a time. Plus they’re bouncy so they double as a ball.

Whatever you get for your puppy, just be sure it’s safe. And remove any small pieces than can be swallowed or choked on, and throw away any toys that are falling apart.

She’ll need plenty of toys! You’ll need to keep her busy so she doesn’t destroy your house! Here’s a great place to find toys:

The mini leos will be good for development! Smartypants too!

    Good luck and congrats!
