Do Kong toys really stand up to very enthusiastic chewing?
September 28th, 2009 | by Michael |Weeping Willow, Cry For Me asked:
I have two Staffordshire terriers and the younger of them is especially rough on toys. I don’t want to spend upwards of $30 on something that she will chew through in a day or a week. Responses from owners of tenacious, strong-jawed dogs are most appreciated. Thanks!

I think they stand up well…though they can be expensive. I have an Amstaff Mix and an AB and they haven’t been able to destroy a Kong yet.
Try going to you can get them for a lot cheaper and if you spend $50 they’ll give you free shipping.

If you get the larger of the Kongs it should last. Kong also makes large balls and other indistructable toys.

My dog is a really powerful chewer and completely destroyed the first Kong toy we got her. We then got her the large Kong Extreme (the black one) and we also got my mastiff one. We have had the toys for about 8 months now and neither dog has been able to chew through them, and they are both very powerful chewers.
If you buy a kong toy, then get the kong extreme.
Good luck!

Some people will tell you that they are the best things in the world and some people will tell you their dog destroyed it in less than 20 minutes.
I work in the kennel at a vet clinic and gave a pitbull mix a kong with a little bit of peanut butter in it to keep him busy. (He kept chewing up his towels and blankets that we would put in his cage) He loved it and had it all weekend long in his cage. Plus it kept him busy and he didn’t do one bit of damage to it other than putting teeth marks in it.
You can put peanut butter, hard treats, plain (no flavoring) yogurt & put it in the freezer for a frozen treat.
I personally like kongs.

it really depends on how ur dogs take to the kong. i have had kongs for my dogs and they have survived being burried under mud, snow and dirt then after a month or so i will find it back in the house with them chewing on it. some dogs will destroy it where as others will keep it around to play with and chew it when they are bored. i find big dogs are more apt to chew them up for hrs and others keep them handy. get a stronger toy to see if will stand up to the wear and tear before spending a lot on kong. my dogs love chewing and playing with empty soda bottles, they twist the caps off, toss them around for a while them squish it with their teeth. they wait patiently for the next one and they are a cheap play toy.

My dogs shred toys, and they haven’t been able to tear apart a kong. It’s probably the only dog toy worth the price. I have the following types of dogs:
pit bull; doberman/pit bull mix; and lab/pointer mix

My Dobermans love them! They chewed up all other toys and bones for dogs that were suppose to last for ever… But nope gone in days. The Kongs I have had for the past 2 years and they love them.

They’re the only toys that my 3 JRTs haven’t been able to destroy! To me they’re worth their weight in gold! Especially the Kong Frisbee! It lasted 3 summers and they finally destroyed it with a fierce game of tug-of-war! There’s a toy that’s made from hose material used on firetrucks that’s supposed to be guaranteed. I’ll look it up and email you the info!

My Ridgeback destroyed the large red Kong in 20 minutes. I have been reluctant to pay the money for the black one.

They hold up to our Giant Schnauzers and they can destroy just about anything.

I have had a Bulldog (R.I.P Lacey) and I now have 2 Boxers. They all love to chew, and are powerful chewers. I have not yet had one chew up the Black Kong. You should look at the back to find out what size you will need to buy. The Tire Biters have also worked wonders for me.
